Modern Slavery Statement
Modern Slavery Statement for Man and a Van St Johns Wood
Man and a Van St Johns Wood is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in all aspects of our man and van and related logistics services. We recognise our responsibility to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking within our operations and supply chains. This Modern Slavery Statement outlines the steps we take to identify, prevent, and address any risk of modern slavery.
Our Commitment and Zero-Tolerance Policy
We operate a clear zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, and exploitation. This applies to every part of our business and to all external parties that work with us, including suppliers, subcontractors, and labour providers. We will not knowingly engage with any organisation involved in or benefiting from modern slavery, and we will terminate relationships where credible evidence of such practices is found and not promptly and effectively remedied.
Modern slavery is fundamentally incompatible with our values of respect, fairness, and integrity. Our management team is responsible for leading by example and ensuring that these values are embedded in daily operations and business decisions.
Scope of Operations and Supply Chain
Our core activities include transport, removals, and related support services. While we operate primarily within the United Kingdom, we recognise that risks can exist at any level of the supply chain, including providers of vehicles, fuel, equipment, uniforms, cleaning services, and temporary labour. We are committed to understanding and addressing these risks in a proportionate and effective way.
Supplier Standards and Due Diligence
We expect all suppliers to share our commitment to preventing modern slavery. As part of our due diligence process for new and existing suppliers, we:
Request confirmation that they comply with all relevant labour, employment, and human rights legislation within their jurisdiction. Assess whether their operations or sourcing locations are at elevated risk of modern slavery. Consider their track record, reputation, and any publicly available information regarding labour practices.
Where appropriate, we prioritise working with suppliers who can evidence clear policies and procedures to combat modern slavery and who demonstrate transparent and responsible employment practices.
Supplier Audits and Monitoring
We conduct proportionate audits and reviews of selected suppliers, focusing on those areas where the risk of labour exploitation could be higher. These audits may include document checks, site visits where feasible, and discussions about recruitment, working hours, wages, and grievance mechanisms.
If concerns are identified during an audit, we will work with the supplier to agree an improvement plan with clear timeframes. Where concerns are serious or persistent, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate the relationship. Records of audits and follow-up actions are maintained to support continuous improvement.
Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing
We encourage all employees, contractors, and third parties to raise any concerns related to modern slavery or unethical labour practices. Concerns can be reported directly to line managers or senior management without fear of retaliation. Reports may be made confidentially, and we will treat all information sensitively and investigate promptly and fairly.
We are committed to protecting individuals who raise concerns in good faith. Any attempt to victimise, intimidate, or discipline someone for reporting a concern will be treated as a serious disciplinary matter.
Training and Awareness
We aim to ensure that relevant staff, particularly those involved in procurement, recruitment, and supplier management, understand the risks of modern slavery and how to identify warning signs. Information about modern slavery risks and our policies is shared as part of staff induction and ongoing briefings.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed annually by the management of Man and a Van St Johns Wood. As part of the review, we consider changes in our operations, evolving legal requirements, and best practice guidance. Where necessary, we update our procedures, supplier requirements, and staff training to strengthen our approach.
We are committed to continuous improvement and to working collaboratively with employees, suppliers, and other stakeholders to help eradicate modern slavery in all its forms.
This statement has been approved by the management of Man and a Van St Johns Wood and will be reviewed and updated on an annual basis.
